Prerequisite: Department approval.
This course introduces the student to the clinical issues and strategies related to initial contacts with a client, preparation of the client for a successful treatment experience and the issues and concerns of the first phase of drug and alcohol treatment. Specific topics considered in this course include client screening, intake procedures, orientation procedures, assessment, treatment planning and modes of treatment. Three lecture hours per week.
